Today the Solana blockchain has once again been halted – this time globally. As of the time of writing this blog, Solanas validators aren’t producing any blocks for the past 5 hours – which has resulted in a COMPLETE SHUTDOWN of the Solana network. There were no warnings of this happening, unless you count the multiple times Solana has halted it’s blockchain in the past.
Solana released a statement about this saying that the mainnet beta needs to be restarted by validators. They said “Validator operators should prepare for a restart in mb-validators on Discord”. Ah yes – the old “restart the blockchain from Discord” tactic – no doubt a quick route to upending the global tyranny of centralized currency.
Solana claims to be a “high performance” blockchain – but you’d have to ask yourself why you believe it (if you even do). The Bitcoin blockchain ( bitcoin timechain ) has never been frozen, stopped, halted – or really done anything other than continue on making blocks. Block after block, like clockwork since 2009. But hey – Solana may have a bright future. But it seems the present for Solana is more of a …flickering type of situation.
